My name is Jesse and this is purely to let you in to my brain.
This site came at the request of my wife, who said I needed an outlet to talk about movies. Whether that was because she was tired of hearing me rant on and on about movies or because she really wanted me to do something with all this knowledge; The result is the499.
I love movies and my purpose for this site is not that it would be a blog, but a reliable source for quality movie reviews. My reviews are impersonal, technical and straight to the point with no bias. I want this site to be a reference for you. A place where you can go to get a short honest review so that you can decide whether said movie is worth your time.
I wanted to give a small backstory on myself. I grew up watching movies ALL THE TIME. I was exposed to tons of good film and bad film, and I had to learn how assess the difference. Now some films are “bad” but there is nothing wrong with loving a bad film. For example one of my all time favorite movies is Austin Powers : Goldmember, arguably the best comedy of all time (although I am the only one arguing). But unfortunately it is not the “best” movie. I still love it though because it makes me laugh and that is all that matters.
Movies serve the purpose of telling a story, producing emotion and providing entertainment and escapes from our world. They reflect the creative nature of our mind and allow us to experience things that are simply not real. They make us empathize and understand things we may not be able to without the help of said film. They make us FEEL!
This is why I made this site! I love critiquing and breaking down movies to see their nuts and bolts and see what story they are trying to tell and whether or not they succeed in doing so.
If you like what you read stick around, I will be putting up a lot more content in the coming months.
SIDEBAR: I thought I should share my top 10 movies, it only seems appropriate.
They are in no particular order and also subject to change because there are always new movies coming out and tons of movies I haven’t seen yet.
